The Conference focussed on the challenges raised by geological disposal for decision-making on political, economic, societal and ethical issues.

Speakers and participants included:

• policy-makers – ministers and parliamentarians from a wide range of countries, both Western and Asian, and representatives of international organisations
• regulators – from nations with well established radioactive waste management programmes
• implementers – responsible for the planning and realisation of geological repositories
• nuclear industry officials – leading companies in the electricity production sector.

The Conference offered a mix of keynote speeches, panel discussions and side events, providing a comprehensive overview of the latest developments, while allowing speakers and attendees ample time for discussion.

The first day of the Conference was devoted to strategic and policy developments and the second day focussed on the implementation of defined strategies, taking into account regulatory, societal and economic issues.
