Day 2 : October 16, 2007
Ensuring protection, creating trust and bringing national
projects forward
The second day of the conference explored the processes for decision making
and implementation of geological repositories from the perspectives of
societal involvement, practical implementation and regulatory supervision.
Implementing the geological disposal of radioactive waste within the political
and legal framework discussed on the previous day is a challenging prospect
in many countries, especially with respect to the role and involvement
of society in general, and potential siting regions and communities in
particular, in the decision-making process.
