Study tour to the Grimsel Test Site
The Grimsel Test Site (GTS) was established more than twenty years ago as a centre for underground research and development (R&D) supporting a wide range of research projects related to geological disposal of radioactive waste. The site is located at an altitude of 1,730 metres above sea-level in the granitic formations of the Aar Massif in the heart of the Bernese Alps.
The tour will be organised by bus. Pick-up and departure from the conference hotels will be around 08:00h (detailed information will be provided during the conference). Following arrival at the GTS, the participants will be introduced to the current research activities and will explore the research facilities. A visit to the breathtaking crystal cave will conclude the underground tour. A buffet lunch will be served at the Grimsel Hospiz before returning to Berne. Arrival at Berne main station will be around 17:00h.
