Study tour to the ZWILAG Interim Storage Facility
The centralised interim storage facility (ZWILAG) in Würenlingen carries out key tasks in the field of radioactive waste management, including treatment and conditioning of low- and intermediate-level waste from the Swiss nuclear power plants and from medicine, industry and research.The facility also provides interim storage for all types of radioactive waste and spent fuel assemblies from the nuclear power plants.
The tour will be organised by bus. Pick-up and departure from the conference hotels will be around 08:00h (detailed information will be provided during the conference). Following arrival at the ZWILAG headquarters, the participants will be introduced to the facility operations and guided through the waste treatment and storage facilities. A small lunch will be served at the Oase Restaurant of the Paul Scherrer Institute before returning to Berne. Arrival at Berne main station will be around 16:00h. Drop-off at a train station with direct connection to Zurich Airport can be organised on request.
